B-52

The B-52 is a famous layered shooter that many people have tried, even if they don’t know exactly what’s in it. It’s named after the American B-52 bomber plane, used during the Vietnam War—probably why people light it on fire, to match the “flaming” theme.

There are other similar drinks with names like B-53 and B-54, but the B-52 is the original and most popular.

No one really knows where it was first created, but it became trendy in the late 1970s. Fun fact: in 2009, Arsenal footballer Nicklas Bendtner changed his jersey number to 52 and got the nickname B52, making the shot a hit in North London.

The B-52 is made of three liqueurs that stack neatly because they have different densities:

  • ½ shot Kahlúa (coffee liqueur)
  • ½ shot Baileys Irish Cream
  • ¼ shot Grand Marnier (orange liqueur)

These ingredients layer on top of each other to create a cool striped effect.

How to Make It

  1. Start with Kahlúa at the bottom.
  2. Slowly pour Baileys over it using a speed pourer or by pouring gently down the side of the glass.
  3. Use a bar spoon to carefully layer Grand Marnier on top.
  4. If you’re feeling fancy, light the top layer (Grand Marnier) on fire before serving.

You can increase the amounts if you have bigger shooter glasses. And if it’s hard to ignite the top layer, try warming up the Grand Marnier a little first.
